Wilco announces festival first suggested by TIRBD
So apparently, I have some pull with Wilco.
It hasn’t been acknowledged as such, but hear me out and see what you think. The band has announced the Solid Sound Festival, a “three-day event of music, art, comedy, interactivity and more.”
Wilco will headline the event, which also features performances by the band members individual side projects: Glenn Kotcheʼs On Fillmore, The Nels Cline Singers, The Autumn Defense featuring John Stirratt and Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgensenʼs Pronto.
So, where do I come in? When I interviewed Jorgensen last summer about the new album from Pronto, I posed this question:
TIRBD: At what point will there be an all-day Wilco festival with the band headlining a show featuring Pronto, Glenn Kotche solo, Loose Fur, the Nels Cline Singers and Autumn Defense?
MJ: Ha ha! I love it! I’ll blue-sky this proposal to the Wilco Brass and see what sticks!
It took a while, but I think the link is clear. Attempts to reach Jorgensen to inquire about my all-access passes (and my cut of the take) have thus far been unsuccessful.
Regardless, it sounds like a great event. To be held at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams, Mass., on Aug. 13-15, the festival will include performances by other artists and much more: “a fully programmed comedy stage, interactive installations and exhibits (including the Solid Sound Stompbox Station, an interactive guitar pedal exhibit created and demonstrated by Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, a concert-poster screening demonstration, planned workshops by luthiers and more), plus film, video installations and DJs.”
Tickets are $78 for the three-day event, and can be purchased here starting Friday.
